World Homeless Day 2025 Street Art

World Homeless Day is recognised annually on October 10th. This international day serves as a platform to raise awareness and advocate for improved policies and funding that can help prevent homelessness and support those who are living without housing.

The below artworks and poetry have all been created by people who have experienced homelessness, sharing their stories, voices and creativity. From October 6th, this art will be displayed on the Phantom Billstickers bollard on the corner of Manchester and Litchfield Streets, alongside a poetry display on Mollett Street just off Colombo Street.

Homelessness in Ōtautahi is increasing at an alarming rate. The waitlist for the Housing First Ōtautahi service is higher than it’s ever been, and we are increasingly seeing more people in unsafe situations, including whānau with young tamariki and elderly persons.

There is huge stigma associated with homelessness. With this art project, we hope to share the voices of those experiencing homelessness and invite you to consider the person behind the artwork.

The World Homeless Day 2025 Street Art project is a collaboration between Housing First Ōtautahi, The White Room Creative Space, Watch This Space, Christchurch City Mission, and Christchurch City Libraries.
